CRUSH PRESENTS SHINNENKAI, JANUARY 28-29, 2011
Celebrate An Asian-inspired New Year’s Experience at The B.O.B.
Grand Rapids, MI (January 11, 2011) – The B.O.B. (i.e. The Big Old Building), known for its landmark status as an entertainment destination in downtown Grand Rapids, brings a new signature, themed event to Crush nightclub, located on the first floor, in collaboration with Spotlight616.
Shinnenkai (pronounced shin•in•kī), meaning “new year gathering,” is the Japanese tradition of welcoming the arrival of the New Year, celebrated among friends in January. To kick off 2011, in typical B.O.B. fashion, Shinnenkai will be thrown in style.
For Friday and Saturday, January 28 and 29, Crush will transform into a playground of Asian-inspired cultural temptation. A $10 cover at the door will give guests access to an intimate opening reception each night featuring sake sampling and naked sushi from 7-9 p.m. Known as Nyotaimori and Nantaimori, the presentation of sushi will be enjoyed off of female and male models, respectfully, from The Matthew Agency, creating a hands-on experience – literally.
Also, during the opening two-hour reception on Friday, guests will be treated to a Butoh conceptual dance performance, choreographed by Rachel Finan and Raven Bassett. Rachel is a founding member and Artistic Director for Super Happy Funtime Burlesque.
On Saturday night, Peri Olson, owner of Flashback Clothing and Antiques, will set the stage for a Tokyo Window Display. Influenced by Japanese street fashion, live models will creatively showcase a collection of fashion districts with recycled and custom tailored vintage attire courtesy of Flashback. Panopoulos Salon will provide the hair and makeup styling for the models, also representing The Matthew Agency.
The soundtrack during Shinnenkai will be provided by Crush residents, DJ Dav on Friday and Casey Cochran on Saturday. Complimenting each DJ both nights will be a Taiko-influenced drum show produced by Todd Ohme and fellow members of the Detroit Pistons Drumline.
Asian attired is encouraged, and guests are welcome to have fun with it – being as creative and daring as they choose. Crush will be open 7 p.m.-2 a.m. to guests 21+. There will be a $5 cover after 9:00 p.m. to get into The B.O.B. VIP bottle service guests during Shinnenkai are exempt from cover.
Limited VIP bottle service reservations can be made through Angela Shea at ashea@gilmorec.com or 616-356-2627 x32.
Guests who visit The B.O.B. before Shinnenkai can pick up a flyer for the event from their favorite bartender or cocktail server, redeemable for 20% dinner at Monkey Bar and the chance to win free cover to Crush for a year.
